I was at Wellesley form 1977 through 1978. I played colors on the bugle every morning whilst the flag was hoisted on the pole by the chapel. I was paid an extra 10 pennies per week :)

It was a fantastic well disciplined and well run place - also perfectly maintained. I was in Boscawen unit.

I recall going back to visit a few years after i had left. It was heart breaking. The place had been taken over and run by a bunch of PC social workers and the place was a rundown shambles and the inmates a basically of out of control and ill disciplined. There was no formal training so the kids left with nothing :(

I am still involve with the ships - thanks to my Wellesley training.

hi Rose - I am still waiting for my second email to confirm registration so i may read the forum posts :) Keen to see if there are any of those kindred soles that attended the 'naughty boys' school whilst i was in attendance.

Funny thing is i once received a letter form an ex girlfriend which was actually addressed to:

Wellesley Naughty Boys School
Links Road
Blyth

She obviously had a good sense of humor :)

Hi My name is George and was a resident at WNS in 1980-1981. Although the regime was tough especially where arguments between lads usually ended up as a staged fight in the boot room between those caught arguing. Still I felt I learned from my experiences at WNS especially from holidays to the schools cottage out in the cheviot or a various campsites in and around Northumberland. I excelled in sports by becoming the fastest sprinter and swimmer in the school and 2nd strongest due to heavy weight training. I do remember the 1980 pantomine of Babes in the wood where I played a dame. I also learned how to rock climb and abseil through a house master called Mr Flook who was an ex army Sargent major. Mind you his versions of night excesses would become quite painful if you were caught by any of the staff during these excesses as they would lay into you with a kemantle rope tied at the end with a knot called a monkeys fist. I would love to hear from anyone who was at the school during the same period as I was.

I am a lawyer working in the field of child abuse. Over the years I have had quite a number of men contact me to complain about bad treatment at Wellesley Nautical School. I have been unable to help them as no police prosecutions have been successful. Nevertheless I think the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse ("IICSA") might be interested in looking into WNS. Can I suggest that anyone who feels able to contacts IICSA ? They have a website www.iicsa.org.uk
